5 on friday: currently

hiking with kids

Happy Friday, folks! Today, I wanted to try something a little new and share a little bit of what’s currently going on with the Moores out at JBLM. So, I joined (albeit late) with the amazing Anne from in residence, and I’m sharing what I’m currently picking, preparing, trying, feeling, and following. I’ve seen this feature on Kait’s blog a few times, and with travel prep in full swing, it felt like a good time to really dive in. So, here we go!

Trying // This is a funny one because I’m trying a lot of things right now, most of them in relation to our impending trip to South Africa. Other than that though, I’m trying to soak up every second here at JBLM, as well. We’re trying to get out and explore, see new things, and stay busy (so much so that I even managed a girls’ night with friends this week…like, what?!) I think the best thing to do when you’re overwhelmed is really just to jump in with both feet, so that’s what we’re doing!

Picking // Right now, I’m still in the process of picking our Christmas cards. I know…I literally just shared the best places to design your holiday cards yesterday, but I still haven’t picked the perfect ones for us. Who knew it could be so hard?! Tell me, have you designed yours yet?!

Feeling // Honestly, I just feel grateful. There are a lot of potential changes forthcoming for the Moore family in the next year or so, but I’m just grateful to have Ryan home with us, the ability to fund big adventures, the opportunity to explore and see this beautiful country, and the chance to share our adventures with others. Gratitude is definitely the name of the game this season in our household.

Following // I’m following the growth of Legacy Magazine’s amazing video and series entitled “Deployment is Not a Casual Word.” With November being the month of the military family (I’ll go into that more next week), I’ve been reading a lot about how other military families deal with deployment, how they embrace and accept the challenges and changes, and I’ve been feeling all sorts of inspired. This community is big, but it’s also tight-knit, and I’m grateful for that.

Preparing // Let’s be honest…this is the big one! We leave for South Africa in less than three weeks! That means I’m finishing the final trip preparations, like booking our flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town, coordinating last-minute details about swimming with sharks, and arranging incredible dinner reservations, like our trip to Belly of the Beast in the Cape. I’m also finalizing the last-minute details about what we need to bring, making sure our documents are in order, and just plain getting excited!

So there you have it, folks! That’s what’s currently happening here with us. What’s new with you?!
