family date at 7 seas brewery and taproom

7 seas brewery and taproom

I don’t know about you guys, but I love a good family date. I don’t particularly care what exactly we do, but it has to be fun for all ages because we’ve got just about every age you can think of in our little tribe. Enter 7 Seas Brewing Co. in downtown Tacoma. Our good friends mentioned having a family date together – kids included – and you’d better believe we jumped right on that.

7 Seas Brewery and Taproom in Tacoma is actually the second location of 7 Seas Brewing Co. and operates out of a historic building that once housed the Heidelberg Brewing Company. They opened in 2016 and haven’t looked back, featuring an impressive 10,000 square-foot taproom, complete with custom-wood tables and furnishings, comfortable couches, open viewing to their brewing operations, 48 taps, and areas for independent vendors to offer food, coffee, and more.

The best part though? It’s family-friendly. And I’m not just talking “okay, bring your kids and hope for the best.” There were plenty of families there. The kids brought toys. Within reason, they could walk and play around, built a fort with pillows under the tables, and played with trains while we enjoyed great company, food, and drinks.

7 Seas’ Tacoma location features an in-taproom restaurant service called 3uilt (Built) that has everything from charcuterie to local oysters, sandwiches, and beyond. We opted for their other option though – bringing our own food in. You can even have food delivered from other local Tacoma restaurants if you want, making it the perfect way to create your own ideal family or couple’s date night out. Want to know more?

What Makes 7 Seas Brewery and Taproom Unique?

While most local breweries and/or bars are known for a crowded atmosphere and plenty of TVs, 7 Seas is about meeting people and building connections. You won’t find TVs here. What you will find are couches, long community tables, intimate nooks and high-tops for fun gatherings. There is one projector in house, and it’s only used to broadcast Seahawks games. For us, it was perfect, giving us the ideal way to rest, connect, indulge, and play with good friends.

So….What Can I Expect to Enjoy at 7 Seas?

First and foremost, you’ll get the company of your group and others! But if you’re talking about brews, you’re also in luck. They offer a full range of year-round brews, plus seasonal offerings, and a rotating Taproom Reserve Series. Is cider more your thing? They offer local Washington State ciders, kombucha, and gluten-free beer from Seattle’s own Ghostfish Brewing. You’ll even find non-alcoholic offerings if that’s your cup of tea. So, no,  you don’t have to drink to go to 7 Seas either!

Honestly, this was such a fun time with great friends. I’d love to go back and see their Tacoma taproom in person. They offer tours select Thursday evenings at 6 PM for just $5 per person. You’ll enjoy four unique tasters and take home an exclusive pint glass, as well. Whether you’re an aficionado, or just love to learn about unique Washington offerings, I’d hazard a guess this is for you.
