Hello from South Africa, my friends! I know I’ve been desperately quiet, but it’s for good reason! We left Seattle on Wednesday afternoon and arrived in South Africa early Friday morning South African time. It was a long 36 hours of travel, but we arrived at O.R. Tambo International Airport, met up with my Uncle Roelof and Aunt Rina, as well as our nephew, Connor, and headed to Pretoria to unwind and relax.
It’s been a rainy few days here, and apparently it’s been rainy here for about a week now. I’m used to South Africa being rather dry, so seeing all the foliage beautifully green and lush is something new and exciting! I am, however, hoping the sun comes out soon because I’d really like to get some color while we’re here – a good change from PNW weather.
Yesterday, we ventured to Hartbeespoort Dam to show Connor the dam, see some of the area and visit a Dutch cheese factory, and let him see a bit of African wildlife outside Pretoria. Though rainy and misty, we managed to see animals, buy some cheese, and enjoy some time exploring. You might remember we spent Christmas 2017 at Hartbeespoort, and it was a blast, so it was nice to go back and see it rainy and full again.
We’re heading to KwaZulu-Natal to enjoy some time at the coast, and we can’t wait. WiFi has been a bit shoddy, but it’s been nice enjoying some time decompressing and enjoying time as a family and reconnecting with the family we don’t get to see too soon.
I can’t wait to share more of our trip though, so I’ll be sure to check in again soon. Until then, hello from South Africa, my friends!
