For those who’ve followed me for a while, you’ve likely gotten to know that I enjoy a good post in numbers. There’s something innately cathartic about looking at the things you’ve accomplished and laid bare, broken down into numbers. I did our 2018 in numbers last year, and it’s been a lot of fun to write out our 2019 in numbers and compare it to what we saw, did, and experienced together last year. So, without further ado…here’s our 2019 in numbers!
1 – The number of deployments we weathered. Ryan deployed to South Korea in late January of last year, came home briefly for Mieke’s birth in March, and finally came home for good in early October. This was our second married deployment and our second in three years. We’re glad to have him home for a while now.
1 – The number of births we experienced. Mieke was born on March 31st of 2019, and we couldn’t have been happier to welcome our final missing piece to our little family. She’s a little ray of sunshine, all sugar and spice, and she keeps us laughing ever day. Truly, this little girl is a joy.
5 – We celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary at the beginning of January, and we’re preparing to celebrate our sixth. Time flies when you’re having fun (or deployed, or TDY or, you know, having kids). Cheers to many more, my love!
2 – The number of potty-trained children in our house! This is a big one, folks. This was hard-fought and hard-won. Potty training Porter was probably the biggest source of all my tears and frustrations through this past deployment, but just like everyone said, when he decided he was ready, it was done. And lawwwwd am I thankful it’s done.
8 – The number of flights we’ve taken as a family this year. Each leg of our journey to South Africa this past month consisted of two flights. We also flew as a family from Johannesburg to Cape Town (and back). Plus, there was that time the kids and I flew Space-A across the country to visit my family.
133 – The number of posts I’ve written on Loving Life Moore this past year. It’s been a year of transition for this little blog of mine and though I came in slightly lower than last year, I’m proud of this. I’ve had goals for it (and for myself) for a while, but I’ve always sort of stood in my own way. Over time though, I’ve found my little niche, and sharing more of our military journey, motherhood, travels, and overall perspective has been so freeing for me – and us. I’m excited for a big year ahead!
Looking ahead to 2020, I’m excited to have a year of relative togetherness again. Though Ryan already has another deployment scheduled for 2021, we will only deal with TDYs this next year, and we plan to make the most of every minute. I know people are big on resolutions, but this year, I want to focus on my word of the year. I thought about it a lot, and truly, 2020 is all about intention.
I have big goals, and I want to embrace everything to come with the greatest of intentions and, as such, I want to be intentional about everything I take on both personally and professionally.
Cheers to 2020, my friends! Happy New Year!
