Happy Friday (again), friends! How we’re already into the second week of May, I’ll never know, but here we are, and it’s time for Currently: the May Edition. I started participating in this feature from Anne in Residence a few months ago, and I love it – especially during this quarantine time. I’m a pretty reflective person, and I feel like this feature has given me the time to really process what’s going on inside my head (and in my heart) through all of this.
I mentioned last week that we were nearing the end of our stay-home order in Washington state. For those who missed it earlier this week, Gov. Inslee extended our stay-home order through the end of May, while relaxing a few restrictions along the way. For example, many of the trails and parks are now open, though restaurants and most businesses remain closed. It’s weird. Chaotic. Crazy. Yet, we’re here, and we continue to truck along. Phase 2 of reopening should begin around the end of May, but until then, this is the new new normal. Weird, right? I digress though, so let’s dive in…
Currently: The May Edition
Making // I bought a pound of yeast on Amazon because it’s been so hard to come by, so I continue to make a lot of bread for these carb-hungry heathens in the Moore household. I also made margarita cupcakes for Cinco de Mayo, and I’m tackling some home projects I’ve been putting off forever. I mentioned on my Instagram last week that I was tackling an old window project, and I can’t wait to share it soon! It’ll go in the master bedroom…which I’m finally decorating (now that we’ve got a year left here at JBLM). Beyond that, I’m also just making the best of it. All of it; the bipolar weather, the rain, the sun, the good, and the bad – as much as possible.
Missing // Honestly, I’m missing a lot of things, but I think I’m mostly missing my family. I miss my mama, and I miss the freedom to just say, hey, I wanna go somewhere fun. That said, our 50-mile radius restriction was lifted for military personnel this week, so I’m excited to (hopefully) go hiking and exploring a little this weekend. I don’t know what normal will look like when this is all over, but I miss normalcy most, I think.
Learning // I’m learning a lot! Between the two freelance jobs I’m working, I’m learning new facets of copywriting that I haven’t had to dip into for a while, and that means I’m learning new types of creative expression, and I love that. I’m also learning how to DIY a lot of little household projects, which has been fun.
Loving // It’s a mixed bag from day to day, but overall, I’m loving the extra time I have with my children. We’re supposed to have the absolute best weather this weekend, and I can’t wait to play in a backyard baby pool, enjoy the first tastes of summer, and savor every second before life really resumes again. I’m also loving the time to stretch my copywriting wings working for different companies. I miss the comfort of my old job, but I’m grateful for the challenge.
Reading // Guys. This is the most shocking of all for me right now! I haven’t had the time or inclination to read for a long time, and that’s kind of crazy because I was a book blogger just after college, often reading 5+ books a week. My favorite books lately have been Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng and The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan.
So, there you have it, my friends. That’s what I’m currently making, missing, learning, loving, and reading through the month of May. How are you doing? What’s new in your corner of the world?
Also, one quick final note. Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, and I wanted to take a moment to say how grateful I am to be counted among the ranks of so many incredibly strong, brave, resilient women who navigate and endure a lifestyle that many would never want to. Thank you for all you do!
