5 on friday: wins for the week

wins for the week january

Happy Friday, friends! I have to be honest; all these January days are blurring together right now. Between this January slump, waiting on all the things, and the weather we’ve had for a while, it’s felt nearly eternal. But we’re officially halfway through January, and for some reason, that feels like a win in and of itself! While it may feel like we’re always waiting for the next big thing, good things are happening, too, and in the spirit of positivity and dedicating myself to my word of the year, drive, I want to focus on those. So, without further adieu, it’s time for Wins for the Week!

Wins for the Week

1 // Spencer is wrapping up his first full week in-person again

This is such a big one! We’ve been hoping and praying this would be a possibility since we enrolled him at his new school, but we didn’t know if it was possible. They will still have a half day each Friday for school cleaning and work with the upper grades who can’t yet attend in person, but it’s a step in the right direction, and we are so happy!

2 // We had two days of sun in a row

I know this doesn’t sound like a big one, but trust me when I say it is. We’ve had weeks of relentless rain with, usually, one dry day in between. The past two days have actually been sunny, and I can honestly say my mood has followed suit. It’s been such an uptick for all of us to be able to (comfortably) play outside, run outside, and just breathe some fresh air.

3 // We have our first chat with our realtor today

No, we’re not buying a house. We’ve decided with our upcoming PCS that it’s time to sell our beloved little home in New York. We don’t see ourselves PCSing back to Fort Drum anytime soon, and we won the tenant jackpot in our current tenants who are also PCSing this summer. I don’t think we can top that and, frankly, it’s time to let someone else enjoy our beautiful spot in Black River.

4 // I purged 75% of the kids’ toys

With each PCS, we try to take a sort of Marie Kondo approach, and we work to significantly pare back on belongings. We decide what’s worth moving and what’s not, what’s sentimental enough to bring, and what it’s time to part with. A lot of the kids’ toys are in great condition, but they’ve outgrown. We put them on the curb, and they were taken in an hour, which makes my heart happy.

5 // I made some tweaks to my photography site

Since I launched my website, I’ve had a few tweaks I wanted to implement to better showcase what I do. One of the biggest ones was reordering my galleries and creating drop downs for each section. I finally accomplished that this week, and as I prep for a couple more shoots this weekend, I’m excited to continue trucking along!

After a couple of busy weeks with work, photography, life, and the weather, we’re heading for a hike this weekend and an adventure on Monday. If you, too, are hitting that January slump, I encourage you to hunt the good but to embrace the current suck because I know it will pass. Cheers to better things coming!

Tell me – what were some of your wins this week?
