5 on friday: wins for the week

wins for the week january

It’s Friday! I can honestly say that I am so excited for the weekend. Though Ryan had a long weekend last weekend, we were so busy. Between three photoshoots on one day, a hike, and then snow tubing with friends, it was nonstop. This weekend, I’m excited to lay low, work on starting our PCS prep, and just one photoshoot on Sunday. January has felt like an eternal month, guys, and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the turn of the month. Things are going to move faster and faster, and while I’m not sure I’m quite ready for that, I am ready for some changes. But, for now, it’s time for this week’s Wins for the Week!

Wins for the Week

1. We found out where we’re moving this year

The big news this week was definitely the destination of our upcoming PCS to South Korea. For those curious, yes, I will share some of the process, including how we’re prepping, procedures that we have to follow, and details regarding COVID requirements for a move to SE Asia. We’re honestly so excited for this, and we know it will  be a huge change for our family.

2. We went snow tubing in Snoqualmie

Last year, I made a point of sharing where you can play in the snow near JBLM. Our friends were heading to Summit at Snoqualmie to go tubing on Monday, so we decided to join them. I didn’t share our whole experience on the blog simply because we were moderately unimpressed with the cleanliness of the place, as well as how they managed crowd control, and their COVID protocols. That being said, it was a gorgeous day, and we got to spend it with great friends, so that was a huge plus!

3. Spencer’s entire school is returning to in-person learning

I mentioned last week that Spencer returned to in-person learning 4 days and 1 half day a week. He goes to a small Catholic school, so the school population is much smaller than public schools and can manage it. This week, we found out the entire school is returning to full in-person learning 5 days a week next week! Obviously, we’re very excited, and we’re hopeful that we’re actually turning a corner here.

4. I delivered 2 galleries to clients this week

As I continue to work on my photography business – yes, through this PCS, too – I’m continuing to deliver client galleries and do shoots when available. It’s been a lot of fun testing the bounds of my creative freedom, and I’m enjoying the changes as I chase down new challenges and push myself to get better.

5. I’m heading into my last week of work

With our upcoming move to South Korea and all that it entails, as well as the fact that Ryan’s leaving TDY again in March, we realized that, unfortunately, I don’t have the space or bandwidth in my life right now for a demanding full-time career. It’s been a lot of fun, but I’m going to push myself with freelancing and contract roles that come about, as well as photography. Nothing like a good challenge, right?

That’s it for this week’s Wins for the Week, my friends! Focusing on the good each week has helped me reframe my perspective regarding the challenges we’ve faced, and I’m really enjoying taking time each Friday to focus on the good.

So, tell me – what are some of your wins for the week?
