But seriously…what. a. week. We’re three weeks into February, which is just insanity to me, and we’re getting closer and closer to our PCS date. In that time, we need to prep our house in New York to sell, get the pets’ certifications to travel, arrange the actual travel, get all our screenings, and deal with the varying pack outs we have to do for an OCONUS PCS. Basically, it’s chaos, but we’re doing our best to take it in stride! This week was about togetherness with great family friends, and it was just what we needed before moving out of the country. So, in the spirit of gratitude, it’s time for another round of Wins for the Week!
Wins for the Week
1 // We had our first snow of the season
We don’t get a lot of snow in western Washington, but when we do, we live it up! Snow pretty much shuts everything around JBLM down, and though this snow didn’t last long, we enjoyed every bit of snow we had! It’s likely our last snow at JBLM, too, so it was even more special.
2 // We had the chance to enjoy great times with great friends
This has been a big one for us, and it’s been weighing on us for a while. We really wanted to see one of Ryan’s buddies from his service years ago in Afghanistan, but between COVID and health issues, it just wasn’t possible. We finally made it happen though, and it’s been soul fuel for all of us. I’m so grateful for this gift of time together before our move.
3 // I landed another freelance job
Since I decided to forgo full-time employment in favor of freelance with this big move ahead of us, I’ve been a little concerned about staying on top of my craft and contributing income, as well. I was thrilled to interview with and accept a freelance Copywriter position with a remote marketing agency that solely hires military spouses (which is huge).
4 // We filed our taxes
Talk about adulting, huh? This has been a gross one hanging over our heads because I absolutely hate tax season. I just find it stressful, but the snow in western Washington gave us the time we needed to slow down, file our taxes, and get it done. Needless to say, that’s a weight off our shoulders.
5 // We soaked up our fair share of mountain air
There’s just something about getting away from the daily grind. The fresh mountain air is probably the biggest of our wins for the week, simply because we all needed this break together. Being able to get outside, sleep in, enjoy the mountains, and savor great company has been such a blessing for all of us. I’ve shared a bit on my instagram, and I’m sure we’ll share more before it’s done.
As we head into the last week of February and towards March, I know that crunch time is coming, and it’s both exciting and daunting. We’ve never done an OCONUS PCS before, and it’s going to be a challenge; of that, I’m sure. I’m finding it more important than ever to sit down and really savor these wins for the week.
