Happy Friday, friends! We’re officially checking the box for the first week of March, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier! This is five days down of our last TDY at JBLM, one less school week prior to our PCS, and another step closer to closing the chapter on JBLM. While I may wax nostalgic about our time here (I mean, who wouldn’t?!), I’m definitely ready to have more stability for our family – even if that means we have to go halfway around the world. So, it’s time for another round of Wins for the Week, in which we celebrate the wins (both little and big) that we’ve accomplished this week.
Wins for the Week
1 // Danny’s officially up-to-date with all her vaccines
A lot of people have asked whether we’re bringing our pets with us to Korea. Short answer – yes. Long answer – there are some fun logistical hoops we have to jump through, but still – yes. Danny had her annual vaccines yesterday, and I also scheduled her FAVN test, which is required for our move to Korea. From there, we’ll transfer her to our vet on post to ensure the other essential elements are completed in a timely, streamlined fashion. I might share more about the process later.
2 // We had sunshine for four straight days
Spring in the PNW is fickle at best. It rains just as much as it does during the winter, it’s usually still cold and gray, and the weather starts to wear on you. We were blessed with four straight days of sun and pseudo-spring, and you’d better believe we soaked up every second of it during the school week with playground time, picnics, and more.
3 // I have a “funeral for my youth” session scheduled tonight
I’ve been steadily working on my photography, and I’m excited to have a really fun session planned with a client tonight to celebrate her 31st birthday, complete with black balloons, a black umbrella, champagne, and more. It’ll be a fun one even if it does rain like it’s supposed to.
4 // We’re seeing significant progress in Spencer’s reading
Since the beginning of Kinder was so rocky for Spencer, he’s struggled a bit with basic sight words and writing. We’re slowly but surely finding our rhythm, coming home from school, doing homework together, working on sight words together, and slowly learning to read. His handwriting is getting better, too, and now we’re just working on confidence.
5 // I’m whittling down our “must-do” list prior to moving
I’ve had an ongoing list of things to do in the PNW, but with our time here fast coming to an end, I’ve realized that a lot of it just isn’t going to happen. So, it’s forcing me to take a hard look and figure out what we really want to do and where we want to go before we move. One of those is going to equate to a little weekend getaway soon, and we can’t wait!
Overall, it’s been an okay week; not perfect, but it’s been a far cry from awful! We’re grateful to have this TDY underway and start counting the days until its done because it’s one step closer to moving day, and I’d call that one of our biggest wins for the week!
Tell me – what are some of your wins for the week?
