Happy Friday, friends! I feel like every time I post now is monumental because it’s no longer a “first” here in Washington…it’s a “final.” Time is flying now. We’re under two weeks until we move, and to say that the PCS crunch is in full swing would absolutely be an understatement. We’re busy, it’s a little bit frenetic here, and we’re working our way through our to-do list the best we can before we leave. So, it’s time for another round of Wins for the Week as we celebrate our second-t0-last Friday in Washington.
Wins for the Week
1 // Mieke is SO much better
For those who were following our updates on my instagram, Mieke got really sick whilst in Utah. Between a GI virus and altitude sickness, it really took the wind out of her sails, and she had about six days of nearly dry diapers, coupled with daily vomiting and lethargy. After consulting our brother-in-law who is a doctor, we decreased our altitude and took her to Primary Children’s Hospital at the University of Utah where she was admitted for severe dehydration and very low blood sugar. Thanks to our great doctors though, we were discharged and cut our road trip short, making our way back to Washington together.
2 // We’re back in Washington
When we initially planned our road trip, we’d planned to stay on the road until about the 13th, making our way from Utah to California. When the stomach bug hit us and Mieke was hospitalized though, we changed course and decided to come home early. I’m grateful we’re back because we have a lot to accomplish, and these extra few days will help a lot!
3 // We got to see Grandma and Papa while in Utah
We don’t get to see Ryan’s side of the family nearly enough. While my parents are able to come out to visit a few times a year, COVID de-railed our Thanksgiving trip to see them Grandma and Papa this past year. Unfortunately, Mieke was sick and it wasn’t under the best of circumstances, but we were so glad to be able to celebrate Porter’s birthday (early) and love on them for a couple days before the chaos began!
4 // We celebrated Porter’s fifth birthday
It definitely wasn’t our biggest celebration to date, but we spent the day prior to his birthday with our good friends in Idaho where we ate his favorite meal (nuggets and fries) and got an ice cream treat! Then, once back in Washington, we celebrated with our local friends with an ice cream cake! I mean, three days of birthday celebrations?! Does it get any better?!
5 // Our unaccompanied baggage is in Korea
Our second shipment of household goods was our unaccompanied baggage – UB – which was picked up on May 19. UB is what you want to arrive first (assuming all goes well), and we weren’t sure if it would get there before, during, or after our quarantine starts. We got the call yesterday that our UB is in Korea, so we’ll get that sooner than later, which is definitely ideal!
I told Ryan a couple days ago that I’m not sure when it’ll really hit me that we’re not just visiting South Korea or going for a trip…we’re going to live there for several years. I don’t think it will hit me (or any of us, for that matter) until we’re out of quarantine and settled in our new home. Regardless, while we still have a tiny bit of time left here, we’re going to enjoy it! Do you think we’ll be able to squeeze in one last hike?!
Tell me – what are some of your wins for the week?
