Happy December, friends! Well, December 3rd if we’re being specific, but December nonetheless! Honestly, I’m glad to see November go. And if we’re really being honest, I’m excited to see 2021 go. We had all this hope and excitement for 2021, and this past year has been harder than I ever imagined…maybe even harder than 2020. So, cheers to the final month of the year! It’s time for Currently: The December in Korea Edition – my version of Anne in Residence’s monthly feature in which we share five things we’re currently doing. Ready?

Currently: The December in Korea Edition

Decorating // I finally finished (or paused, I should say) in decorating our new home in Korea, and I’ve been focusing on decorating for Christmas instead. Last year, we managed to head to New Hampshire for Christmas, but this is our first Christmas in a long time that we’ll spending Christmas alone as a family. Decorating has been sort of cathartic, though I’m low-key annoyed that I bought a small tree for our apartment in Sosabeol, and now it looks miniscule in our (much) bigger villa. Still to come? Stockings!

Feeling // Like most of 2021, I’ve been kind of a mess of emotions but, as a whole, I’m very content. Our new routine in our new home feels good, and I finally feel like we have some sort of balance we can keep for the next few years in Korea. I’m also excited for a holiday here without the hassle of traveling, and we’re feeling extremely excited for Spencer’s birthday tomorrow!

Sending // I wish I could say we’re sending our Christmas cards, but right now we’re waiting to see if they’re lost because they’re kind of MIA in the mail system right now. Instead, we’re busy sending gifts to the states for our family, and we’re sending all our love to our families back home.

Smelling // I decided that I wanted to jump on the orange slice decorating trend, so I’ve been air drying oranges in the oven (low temp) for the last two days. It smells like heaven. I can’t wait to pair them with cinnamon sticks and have the kiddos hang them on the tree. I’ll make some mulling spices while we do it, and our whole home starts to smell like Christmas in New England.

Wrapping // Right now, I’m wrapping Spencer’s birthday presents! Because Spencer was born smack dab between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we tend to go a little more low-key, but we want him to feel special, so we’re getting him some fun presents and having a little birthday party for him this year. Also, can we talk about how absolutely fun the Christmas wrapping paper is this year?! Thank you, design gods!

Currently, December in Korea is cold, but there’s a definitive air of excitement here that’s undeniable. It’s palpable. While time continues to race by at lightspeed, I’m honestly excited to spend a holiday season here in our little home as a family, and I’m ready for a break together!

Tell me – what are you currently decorating, feeling, sending, smelling, and wrapping?
