Happy February, friends! Does anyone else feel like January simultaneously flew by…then later dragggggeddd on forever? I feel like we race into the new year, then that first month just hits you like a ton of bricks. Here we are though, officially a full month into 2023, and we’re inching closer to spring, which I’m so excited for. So, I’m jumping on this month’s round for Currently: February 2023, in which we’re sharing what we’re loving, feeling, posting, receiving, and seeing this month. Here we go!

Currently: February 2023

Loving // I am loving that we’ve emerged from January relatively unscathed! But, in all seriousness, the biggest thing I’m loving right now is that South Korea finally lifted its indoor mask mandate after more than two full years. For the first time since we arrived in Korea, we can go to restaurants mask-free. I finally saw Mieke’s teachers without their masks and sent her to school without one, as well. She was so little when mask-wear began, that it’s actually been an adjustment to take it off her (emotionally, that is), so we’re adjusting, and it makes my heart so happy. Now, they only really wear masks if they’re cold outside, or if we’re in a doctor’s office, etc.

Posting // Well, it’s no secret that I stepped back from constant posting during the latter half of 2022. I was so burned out between Ryan’s deployment, my photography, the kids’ modeling, and all the other things we had on our plate. I feel like I’ve comfortably found a pace for myself again, and I’m posting when I feel happy and inspiration strikes. It’s been good for me. Other than that, I’m just posting a whole heck of a lot of miles on Strava as I prepare for my marathon in March!

Feeling // I feel a lot of pain in my IT band right now. And my butt. And my back. Marathon training is a lot. I forgot how much time and energy it takes, but while I’m feeling all these body aches and pains, I also feel an immense amount of pride for the hours I wake, the miles I log, and the time that I’ve put in – and continue to put in – to race this spring.

Receiving // We spent a lot of the latter half of 2022 refocusing our priorities as a family while waiting for orders. Now that we know where we’re heading next year, we’ve been dialing in our efforts and channeling our time and energy into the right places – church, home, budgeting, travel – all the things that bring our family in joy. And, in doing so, we’ve been receiving so many little blessings for our family.

Seeing // We’re seeing very happy boys lately! With the mask mandate lifted and a new jiujitsu gym open just a few kilometers away, we enrolled the boys in jiujitsu. This is the first time since Covid that our boys are doing sports in person, and my heart is so happy seeing them thrive. I’m excited with all the possibilities we have in Alaska, too, and it gives me so much hope.

I mentioned on my instagram the other day that we’re in that weird place of life where we have feet in two worlds. We’re loving and living in South Korea, soaking it all up as best we can for as long as we have. The other foot is dipping its toes back in the USA though, and we’re so eager to get started on our big journey to the vast wilderness of Alaska. So many good things are coming, but we’re doing our best to stay rooted in the present as much as possible!

That’s a wrap for Currently: February 2023. Tell me – what are you currently loving, feeling, posting, receiving, and seeing?
