It’s been a minute (or a few weeks) since I last posted, but hello from Vietnam! I’ve mentioned in a few of my past blogs that I made a conscious decision towards the end of 2022 that I was going to post less, post more fully, and be really intentional about how I balanced it all. In large part, that meant just enjoying the days leading up to our holiday in Vietnam, planning this trip and all the legwork that went into it, and actually fully settling into vacation mode, which has been so needed. We’re actually on the final days of our holiday right now, and I felt like it was time to post a few photos – if only to remember it in the moment!
Hello from Vietnam!
One of our biggest goals when we got orders to Camp Humphreys, South Korea was to do as much travel in Asia as we possibly could. Obviously, ROM and continuous pandemic-related restrictions kept us from traveling as much as we wanted for our entire first year. With our time in Korea dwindling though, we made the decision to travel, take advantage of the flexibility of homeschooling the boys, and visit Vietnam, which has been high on our bucket list from the start!
Here’s a little-known fact for you; before I met Ryan, and before military life was ever in the picture, I actually applied for and was offered a job at a publishing house in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was such an incredibly idea and opportunity, but I was worried about timing and the breadth of experience it would offer after my year-long contract ended. So, needless to say, I didn’t take it. Obviously, everything worked out the way it was meant to, but Vietnam has always been up there on the list of places I hoped to travel…and it finally happened!
(iPhone) Snapshots of Our Trip to Vietnam Thus Far
Our trip isn’t over yet(!!!), thankfully, so I don’t have to share it all – or even reflect on it all yet – but what an incredibly journey it’s been thus far! Vietnam is wonderful. From the people to the food, the sights, the flavors, the sounds, and everything in between, it’s been such an absolute joy. We’ve traveled a lot with our three kids, too, but both Ryan and I both said this is probably the most like a proper holiday or vacation we’ve ever experienced.
When we’re settled back in South Korea, I’ll definitely share more of the who/what/where/when/how, but for now, hello from Vietnam! If Asia has ever been on your bucket list, don’t skip Vietnam. This country might just be one of our favorites yet.
