Two posts in a week? Who am I?! In truth, I’m sitting in the basement while our house is under construction, so I’m relegated to a spot where it feels appropriate and sequestered enough to focus on actually getting a post up on the blog. Plus, this is an easy one. Now that we’ve officially entered spooky season, it’s time for Currently: October 2024 in Alaska in which we share five things we’re currently doing. And, for the first time ever, I’m actually posting this during the first week. So, here we go!
Currently: October 2024 in Alaska
Loving // I’m absolutely loving this change in seasons right now, which I know sounds crazy, but it’s true. Gone are all the “firsts” – the first winter, the first -40F day…all of those. Now, we’re on the “lasts,” and I’m grateful for it. We’ve heard inklings about what’s next for us, but nothing’s certain, and we won’t know for sure for a number of months. So, for now, we’re loving every moment of these “lasts” as we prepare to move on again.

Seeing // We’re seeing alllllll the leaves fall! This time last year, we were gearing up for the first snowfall. No snow is on the horizon yet, but we’ve definitely had some really cold mornings. It was 27F this morning, so I know winter is just about here! Thank goodness my winter tires are going on today.
Looking Forward to // Right now, my standards are really low. I’m just looking forward to the construction on our house being complete. I really do need to do a post on the house saga, but the cliffnotes version right now is that all the mold and water damage is finally being addressed this week. They quoted us five days to complete the work, and they just opened the dining room ceiling today. I’m not sure if that time estimate will still stand after they fully open the ceiling, but they did find more mold and extensive damage to the wood in the ceiling directly below the leak. Please cross your fingers. We’re in an Airbnb right now, and I’m ready to be done with it.

Wearing // It’s cozy clothes season! One of the things I miss about South Korea is the standard of dress, which I realize sounds weird. But, in reality, people put an effort into their appearance daily, and it forced me (even on my worst days) to get up and get out. Here in Alaska, anything goes. It’s too dang cold to care about fashion, really, so we just wear whatever is warm and comfortable…like Costco track pants and a hoodie today.
Reading // I’m currently reading Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros. I listened to the first book and tried to listen to the second, but I don’t like the narrator for the second book, so now I’m reading it…so much better!
Tell me – what are you loving, looking forward to, seeing, wearing, and reading this October?
