If you follow me on instagram, you’ve likely seen that we’ve been dealing with a dumpster fire of house drama over the past few months. After an initial work order request was submitted in June regarding cracks in the wall in the boys’ room upstairs, as well as a leak downstairs, they finally came out in August and determined that there was A) significant mold and B) significant water damage. Repairs began last week and, due to Spencer’s reactivity to “environmental growth,” we had to relocate for the duration of the bulk of the work. So, we found the cutest Airbnb in Fairbanks, Alaska to be our home-away-from-home for the week. And yes, I absolutely have to share it.
We Found the Cutest Airbnb in Fairbanks, Alaska
Y’all. I try to be very “glass half full,” but I’ll fully admit that I was a trainwreck last week. The idea of managing our already busy weekly routine, work, school schedules (I miss homeschooling), and pets from not home didn’t really excite me. However, that blow was softened by this adorable Airbnb just 20 minutes away from our home on base.
As a whole, Fairbanks is a very “no frills” kind of town, but when we found out we’d have to move out for the week while the mold was remediated and the ceiling exposed, we wanted to find a spot that was comfortable for our whole family – and this little Airbnb was it. If you picture a warm, cozy little cabin in Alaska, this is probably pretty close to what you have in mind. Rustic, wooden, warm, cozy, and inviting, it was the ideal little home away from home for us.
Our Favorite Parts of Our Log Cabin Airbnb
Well, obviously, it’s a log cabin! When we first found out we were moving to Fort Wainwright, this is what we pictured; snowy days, crisp air, beautiful log cabins, and that warm, cozy vibe. Obviously, houses on post are never quite that, but this little abode offered that and more. Admittedly we booked it based on the hot tub offering, but it wasn’t available yet, sadly. It’s being installed this month, so if you’re looking to stay in FBX, trust me – jump on it.
This little Airbnb has three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and plenty of space for our family of five. Here are some other features:
- King bed in the master loft bedroom
- Full-over-full bed in one of the downstairs bedrooms
- Queen bed downstairs
- Pullout couch downstairs
- Laundry
- Gas range
- Two fire pits – one in the front and one in the back
- Hot tub (coming this month!)
- Record player (this was our favorite part!)
Also, we could clearly see that nature likes to visit this cute little spot. There was fresh bear scat in the backyard (something you find cute and quaint when you live in Alaska) and dozens of fresh moose prints. We could hear running water nearby, and the whole spot was just a quiet, peaceful, breath of fresh air.
Places in Fairbanks aren’t cheap to rent, and there are definitely good areas and more, shall we say, unsavory areas. This was a great area, and we’re so glad we booked there. Was it the most convenient to commute to/from school and our house daily during the work? No, absolutely not. However, I guarantee that had we just been there for a staycation with no plans, it would have been an even better stay.
