Happy New Year, friends! We’re back – in Alaska, that is – as of Friday afternoon. We were greeted by frigid (read: -30F) temps, and we’ve never been happier to be back in our little corner of Wainwright with our people! Honestly, the time back east was great for us. It was the perfect reset to get back, get down to business these last 7 months in Alaska, and to appreciate our home and the family we’ve built here, as well. Plus, we’re giving a big ol’ cheers to 2025 because we’re damn ready to bid 2024 farewell.
A Big Old Cheers to 2025
For those of you who’ve been following along our little journey for a while now, you probably know that this is a big year for us. 2024 is the year we got our curtailment, ending our assignment at Fort Wainwright early. But 2025…this is the year our family embarks on our final active duty military PCS. That’s a big deal.
Ryan and I got married 11 years ago, and together we’ve lived in Arizona, New York, Washington, South Korea, and Alaska. We’re ready to see what’s next and, like most military families, we have big dreams for the future. We’re really hopeful this next move is a big step in the direction of those plans.

What We’re Most Excited For
With every impending move, there are challenges, adventures, excitement, and a boatload of emotions. But while we embrace the “wait” mentality, Ryan and I are doing the most cliche thing possible and diving into 75 Hard this week. We’ve threatened to do it a few times, and each time we’ve wimped out. We both need this though. I need this.
Winters at Fort Wainwright are hard, and I’m excited to change my mindset and teach myself to not be cold-trapped. I’m excited to embrace sports schedules, homeschool crazies, a solid workload for my job, and all the challenges that come with it. I’m tired of being tired and I’m ready to remind both myself and our kiddos that we can do hard things. So, essentially, we’re most excited to get our baseline back to, well, a better baseline.

3 Weeks Away and Back to Business
While traveling with kids will never really be considered easy in any way, shape, or form, we needed this reset before saying cheers to 2025. We needed to leave during those darkest days (literally – we missed the winter solstice!), and we enjoyed milder weather for a change. Now, we’re ready to dig in and get back to homeschool, work, doing that ol’ PCS purge before the big move, and more.
If you remember from this post, we started a YouTube channel! We have so much to learn, but our goal is to keep putting out something new each week. So, we shared a little snapshot of our 3 weeks in New Hampshire and New England, and we’d love it if you followed along with us there, too, by liking and subscribing!
These next few months are big though. We’re waiting on orders. We’re waiting on big changes, and we’re waiting on that “hurry up and wait” mentality to kick into gear again. But, for now, we’re content to enjoy Alaska, our neighborhood, and this amazing adventure. Cheers to 2025, my friends!
