I can’t believe we’re already a solid 10 days into January. I was telling a friend yesterday, “yeah, we have seven more months here,” only to realize that’s not true. We have under seven months. Time flies, and I always forget how fast that last bit of time at a duty station goes. We’re busy this winter, too, and it’s been so good for our overall morale. While the days are still dark and chilly, the cold isn’t nearly as cold as last winter (yet), and we’re enjoying every second. It’s time for Currently: January 2025, in which we share five things we’re currently doing.
Currently: January 2025
Loving // Right now, I’m loving being back in our home. Yes, our home had big issues this summer, and it was so nice to be home for the holidays for a change. For better or worse though, we love our little corner of craziness in our neighborhood here on Fort Wainwright. It’s our home, and our people are here, and it feels good to be back and doing all the things again.

Doing to Stay Warm // Honestly, it hasn’t been that cold across the board this winter. We missed a really cold week whilst in New Hampshire, but this week is above 0F every day. Last winter, we were consistently below 0F and, though I’m sure we will get much colder before this winter is done, it hasn’t been as bad on the whole. So, I’m not doing much to stay warm…we’re just warmer across the board – kids included!
Resolving // I mentioned in this post that Ryan and I resolved to do 75 Hard, and we’re doing it! The name is right…it’s hard. Some elements are harder than others though. Getting in two 45-minute workouts while working and doing homeschool has been challenging, but we’re doing it, and we’re six days in now.

Organizing // It has begun. With every move comes a sort of “purge,” and it has begun. We don’t have an RFO yet, but we’re hoping to get one soon and, in anticipation of it, we’re purging things we don’t plan to take. We went through Mieke’s toys, I went through my closet, and we’ve started labeling the furniture.
Wearing // We’re back to being Alaska chic! No, seriously. Sweatpants, hoodies, leggings, and thick socks are back on rotation after actually wearing jeans a few times while in New Hampshire. It’s a strange concept!
January always feels like the longest month. You’re just starting a new year, everything is sort of dragging after the holidays, and you’re just doing your best to muddle through. January 2025 feels so much bigger. I’m traveling next month, we’re prepping for a move, and Ryan’s getting ready for some big training exercises. We’re in the thick of it, and it’s good. So, cheers to January 2025 – may it go fast!
Tell me – what are you loving, resolving, organizing, wearing, and doing to stay warm this month?
