I can’t believe we’re already a week into February here (well, almost). I feel like the days just keep ticking by, and we’re perpetually busy, so life is sort of just coasting on, and we’re just along for the ride. It’s been a wild winter thus far, and it’s wilder to think that this our last winter here in Fairbanks. But, here we are. It’s time for Currently: February 2025, in which we share five things that we’re currently doing.
Currently: February 2025
Loving // I’m loving these overall warmer temperatures that we’ve had this winter here at Fort Wainwright. Sure, it comes with a side of, perhaps, existential dread, but it was so nice to watch the Yukon Quest Alaska this year without absolutely freezing like we did in 2024. Plus, we’re over 7 hours of daylight now, and that feels like spring in and of itself. Dare I say, we’re optimistic?!
Anticipating // Well, we’re still anticipating orders over here someday (hopefully) soon. This is the latest we’ve ever heard, and I’d be lying if I said we weren’t a little nervous waiting for the information to come through. There’s a lot that goes into a military PCS, and not knowing when you have a DEROS is pretty nerve-wracking. Short-term though, I’m getting excited for my trip to Europe in less than two weeks!
Remembering // I remember how cold it was last year in February, and I don’t miss it! This is about the time that we did our -40F pictures out at UAF, and I’m glad I got those photos last year because I’m not entirely certain we’ll even get that cold this year. Winters here in FBX are a different beast, but being on the other side of the winter solstice for the second time definitely has me waxing nostalgic.
Sharing // I’ve been sharing more videos on our YouTube channel, if that counts? I have so much to learn about video editing, and I hate not being good at things, so I’m hoping I am able to learn a lot in the next year so that I can share more – and better – videos!
Wish-Listing // Oooh I don’t know! There’s not a lot that I want or need that I don’t buy as needed. I’ve wish-listed a lot of books though, if that counts? I’ve been on a reading kick thus far in 2025, and I’ve read some great books. I’m also wish-listing (or more like manifesting) orders, but there’s literally nothing we can do about that! So, we’ll say books. Lots of books.
