If you’ve followed our blog for some time, you likely know by now that we love to travel and, in family travel, there’s always at least one “planner.” I’m the planner, my friends. So, when my trip to the Czech Republic was decided, my favorite part began; I got to start researching where to stay in Olomouc, Czech Republic. About two hours from Prague via train, this quaint little city was like stepping back in time, and there are so many options for where to stay and play. So, how did I decide?
How I Chose Where to Stay in Olomouc
First and foremost, it’s important to know that Olomouc is an old, old city full of rich history, but it offers a lot of options. If you’re looking for a modern place to stay, you’ll find it. Prefer something that feels like a rustic retreat? You’ll find that, too.
There’s a beautiful mix of old and new hotels in Olomouc, as well, so my biggest choice was deciding what was most important to me. Most of Olomouc’s city center is walkable, but I wanted to be specifically in the old town, which eliminated some of my options. I also decided I wanted a smaller, more personalized stay. That’s how I ended up at Miss Sophie’s (spoiler alert: I loved it.)

Miss Sophie’s Olomouc Boutique Hotel
Miss Sophie’s in Olomouc is a 14th century historic house with all the stunning character and details that you could ever imagine. From the brick and cobblestone floors to the dumbwaiter, the arched walls, wooden beams, and plank floors, there is so much character in every direction. The hotel books out quickly, so I reserved the last room available during my stay – the attic room – and it was darling.
Worth noting, because it’s an historic building, there’s no elevator, which they caution on the website. So, I had to walk up four winding flights of stairs with my luggage and every time I entered and exited. Trust me when I saw that it was completely worth it though. They’ve decorated beautifully, too. With a sort of steampunk vibe to piping and fixtures, the metal merged with the old wood finishes beautifully.

My attic room’s windows looked directly up at the blue sky, and I could see birds flying each and every morning, which was so beautiful (especially since I was riddled with jetlag). So, I’d help myself to a warm drink in the cozy bed, lie down, and look up at the sky while FaceTiming my family across the world. It was so peaceful and so relaxing. Breakfast was included each morning with my stay, too, and being able to simply go downstairs to have a warm tea and breakfast was so nice and stress-free.

Where to Stay in Olomouc, Czechia
As mentioned before, there’s a place for every want and wish in Olomouc, and stays are actually really reasonable compared to most places stateside. When we started our search, we were actually overwhelmed with options, but it was nice that there were so many to choose from. Here are some of the most highly-rated hotels in the Olomouc area:
- Theresian Hotel – Located near the Trinity Column, it’s a beautiful old building with ample modern amenities.
- Herbarium Boutique Hotel – This petite, chic gem has floral-named rooms and a stunning spring/summer garden onsite.
- Hotel Trinity – Modern comfort meets old-world charm in this gem right near the old city.
