In everywhere but Alaska, I’m pretty confident in stating that spring has mostly sprung. Meanwhile, it’s April 2025 in Alaska, and we’ve had two consistent days of a snowy/rainy hybrid that has returned our clear roads to slop. I say with complete confidence that I won’t miss these pseudo “springs” that we get time and again here…but we’re doing our best to enjoy the ride knowing its our last spring season in FBX. It’s time for Currently, in which we share five things we’re loving, adding to our carts, reading, watching and listening to. Here we go…

Currently: April 2025 in Alaska

Loving // I’m loving the warmer weather we’re having! Yesterday it was 45F, and it’s supposed to be warmer today and tomorrow. The temperature will continue to fluctuate through spring, but right now, it feels so amazing to step outside into the sunshine and just enjoy nicer weather for a change because, as I shared in my last post, it was snowing earlier this week – hard.

Adding to Our Carts // We’re doing our best not to buy much right now as we head into another OCONUS PCS, but we’re buying a few things here and there. First, we bought Danny her airline-approved crate. She’s heading to my parents’ in New Hampshire with Ryan early next month, so we’re prepping for that now. We also ordered some mattress covers so we can ship ours (hopefully) grime-free. Things are getting real!

Reading // I haven’t had a ton of time to read lately, but I’m doing my best to keep adding a book or two a week to my schedule. Right now, I’m reading Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins which, yes, is YA, but it’s so well-written. My heart can’t take it.

Watching // We’ve reached the season of lots of daylight, so when we watch shows in the evening now, it’s pretty bright out! Ryan and I recently started watching the original Star Trek: Next Generation whilst in a show-hole, and it’s been so funny to see how this show started in the 1980’s. It must have seemed so futuristic back then, but now? Hilarious.

Listening to // I’m listening to a lot less music lately since we sold my car (!!!) Almost everything I hear lately is from a Peloton workout or an Instagram reel, so it’s just an eclectic mix. I have been listening to the Follow Him Podcast lately though, and it’s been nice to have that spiritual grounding throughout the week when we’re slowly losing our minds.

Our EFMP packet moved a couple steps in Korea this week after a call to MPD and a friend on the ground putting a bug up the right person’s butt. But, now, it’s waiting on the actual medical review portion and, until that’s done, we’re waiting. We’re really hoping next week is the week, and we’ll get some answers that move us in the right direction, allowing us to start scheduling things like household goods (HHG), unaccompanied baggage (UAB), and more. Ryan did schedule his CIF (his gear turn-in), so at least that’s moving in the right direction. For now though, we wait!

Tell me – what are you loving, adding to your cart, reading, watching, and listening to this month?
