Holy wow, folks. I’ve meant to post every day , but I find myself trapped between “nobody wants to read about the moving process,” “nothing’s really changed,” and “is this worth posting?” So, I’m here today with a non-update, but an update, nonetheless. The countdown continues whether we like the limbo or not, and we’re doing our best to tackle the things that we can tackle right now. Most of all though, we’re reminding ourselves that this is our last active duty move. Fini. Wild, right?
The Countdown Continues
Our EFMP packet was sent (for the second time) to Camp Humphreys a couple weeks ago and, unfortunately, there’s been no movement on it yet. Until it processes through Humphreys and makes it back to Wainwright, we’re in a kind of holding pattern in that we can’t book household goods, flights, or anything. I’m confident that it’ll move soon though, and our DEROS is still 49 days away. Yes, 49. I realize that in any normal kind of life outside of the military, that’s unfathomable…but here we are.

We’re doing the best to get the things done right now that we can, but it feels so backwards – and it always done. Our house is chaos. We’re all a little adrift right now as we have a foot on both sides of the world heading for this move, but we’re doing it. Here’s what we’ve accomplished thus far:
- We sold my car! We got an offer on it about a week and a half ago, and while it didn’t pay off what we owed on it, it was a good, solid offer, and we didn’t want to be trapped by two cars as we head overseas. So, we accepted the offer and solid it on Thursday. We’re officially a one-car household until we get to Korea.
- Our EFMP packet is in Korea (again) as of March 21s. Unfortunately, it hasn’t moved since then. We asked some friends for help on the status and, with any luck, we’ll see movement soon!
- We got Steve’s FAVN back to his vet here in Fairbanks, which means his rabies titer was cleared. We’ll need that, plus his health certificate to fly him back to Korea with us.
- Danny will be going to our parents in NH, and we’ve finally figured out those dates. I scheduled her appointment for her health certificate to fly back East with Ryan next month.
- We’ve purged…a lot. We have a lot more to get rid of though! It’s a bit of a wild process, and our house looks awful, but we’re getting there.
Welcoming “Spring” Through this PCS
I think we’ve had three (or four) false springs at this point here in Fairbanks. It warms up, then it cools down. Rinse and repeat. In fact, it’s currently snowing, and it’s been snowing for over 24 hours now. I’m ready for the snow to be gone and for spring to actually…spring. But, here we are.

We’ll hit almost 50F this weekend though, and I think that’ll allow us the temps to organize outside, get rid of things, and let the kids run wild. We’ve done our best to keep a routine, stay busy, and just enjoy the process – as much as one can – but this is the hard part. I hate not having things planned, and when your schedule is at the mercy of the Army, it’s not easy.
For now though, we’re trucking along. The boys have their last swim meet here in Alaska this weekend, and our weekends are otherwise dominated by packing, cleaning, and purging. So, cheers to a lot of that, a lot of laughs, and as much fun as possible through all the chaos.
