I swear that every day, I wake up with the absolute best of intentions to post. I have plenty to post about. We have oodles to share. But sitting down at my laptop which is currently on my dining room table because I’ve yet to reassemble my desk? Low on my list of priorities. I’ll get around to it. We spent a beautiful 4th of July on the ROK though, and while I’ll share all about what we did on the actual fourth soon (I promise), I mostly wanted to commemorate our first Freedom Fest because in 2021 we were in quarantine, and we didn’t go in 2022. So, this is it!
Celebrating 4th of July on the ROK
First and foremost, for those who didn’t know, “ROK” is the Republic of Korea. It’s our host country. It’s our home, and we love it! We also have a deep-rooted love of America though, naturally, so when Freedom Fest rolls around on Camp Humphreys, you go. And let’s be honest, Camp Humphreys goes all out.
It’s a little bit of a taste of home and the USA for a single day here on the ROK, and it’s one of those few times when everyone on post seems to come together. From the vendors to the entertainment, the food, the fun, and beyond, it’s like a hometown carnival – only abroad – and it’s so special. And, even cooler, this year, the ROKAF put on a show with their famed Black Eagles, and it was amazing. We’ve gone to air shows before, but in Korea, they can actually fly over the crowd (something they can’t do in the US), and it was so neat to see.

Freedom Fest at Camp Humphreys
One of the cool things about being stationed at Humphreys is that there’s a seasonal event for everything. You have Fall Fest, they light the tree in the winter, and we all love to celebrate spring in style. The fun part about Freedom Fest is that there was a whole water-play area that was actually free. The last time we went to Fall Fest, rides cost money, so with temps soaring lately, the kids were in heaven playing in the water while Ryan and I desperately ran through the splash park to try and regain some sanity.
We ended up staying for over two hours, and while fireworks were at 9 PM, we totally called it quits way before then. We were so drained from walking, playing, drinking lemonade, and generally soaking up every ounce of heat and sun that Korea had to offer for the day. But you know what? It was a thousand percent worth it.

That Little Life Update…
Also, I realized that I shared this on every one of my social channels including my Facebook and our instagram, but I never shared it here. So, surprise! We’re expecting twins this fall, so if you don’t see much of me on here, it’s because I’m sweating my butt off and in hiding until they emerge. But seriously, we’re so excited, and we can’t wait to welcome our newest (and final) little blessings.
