Happy August, my friends! In the US – or at least, in Alaska – that means fall is on the horizon. Here in South Korea though, summer is going strong, and despite the incessant heat, we are absolutely loving this shift to true, hot, summer weather. It feels like a proper season that will eventually give way to fall (in late October), which we’ll be so grateful for. It’s August 2025 in Korea, and we’re sharing this month’s version of “Currently”…just late, as usual.
Currently: August 2025 in Korea
Loving // I am loving all the adventures we’ve had lately. I feel like we hit the ground running (despite being sick when we arrived), and we’ve kind of just been go, go, go since then. I know things will need to and, inevitably, slow down for a while when the babies are born, so we’re loving all we’ve managed to see and do this summer. From Porter’s fishing trip to Busan to our trip to the Boryeong Mud Festival, we’ve done a lot, and we’ve loved it!

Looking Forward to // I’m looking forward to my 28-week appointment this week. I generally don’t love doctors’ appts for pregnancy, but knowing we’re firmly in the third trimester now gives me some hope that this pregnancy will, eventually, end…even if it really doesn’t feel like it.
Scheduling // We’ve firmly scheduled the kids’ sports for late summer/early fall, and it feels nice to know that we’ll have our homeschool schedule firmly set soon once their curriculum arrives. That deserves a post all of its own, but I sort of switched things up this year, changed some of our “old faithful” curriculum choices, and ordered some new things that I think we’ll all be really excited about. That flexibility to schedule things will be amazing as we welcome the babies.

Buying // We bought the kids’ curriculum – Mieke’s included – this past week, and I can’t wait to share that. We’ve also bought a few things to prep for the babies, but we’ve been gifted so much that it’s nearly unreal. We’re so blessed. Beyond that, I’ve replaced a lot of my “Alaska” wardrobe with summer appropriate clothes for here in Korea, and that’s been great because it’s been hot. We got Spencer a new rash guard set on Coupang, and this lightweight hoodie was an absolute savior for Ryan for our most recent beach day.
Gearing Up for // Big picture? We’re gearing up for the babies’ arrival this fall. Short term though? We’re gearing up for starting another great homeschool year together, planning some fun close(er)-to-home adventures for the fall, and my first photography session next month. I’m ready to start shooting again, and I’m excited to continue settling in here in Asan and South Korea.
Tell me – what are you loving, looking forward to, scheduling, buying and gearing up for this August?
